Situated on the north east corner of Bay Street and Wellesley Street West, the Sutton Place Hotel first opened its doors to the public in 1967. The hotel currently has 375 hotel rooms and 40 rental units.
Using architect Page & Steele, plans for the new development feature the creation of 772 residential units made up of 729 residential condominium units and 43 rental units. The tower will also be re-clad and balconies will be added to the structure.
The existing building also features a 1 to 3 storey podium at the base which will be reconstructed to create an 8 storey podium. The podium will contain retail space at street level and above levels will feature indoor residential amenity space as well as residential condo and rental units. Outdoor residential amenity space will be located on the roof of the podium.
The existing hotel also features 200 parking spaces accessed from Bay Street. The plan for development reconfigures the existing garage with 260 parking space which includes 46 visitor and 214 residential parking spots accessed from Phipps Street. 149 of these spaces will be small car parking spaces.
Sutton Place is located directly across the street from Yorkville celebrity hotspot, restaurant Bistro 990, which is also closing to make way for another new condominium project, 1 Thousand Bay Condos.
